- DAVID AND GOLIATH
–
Goliath is a symbol of the giants each of us faces in our own
lives. The following are reminders to not only help us see our
giants, but with God’s help, to slay them as well. Let’s look at
four simple truths from:
I
Samuel17: 1-54
Facing giants is an INTIMIDATING
experience.
David walked by faith, but Goliath still looked huge. Faith
doesn’t blind us to the facts, but enables us to see beyond them
and draw strength from God. At any given time we are choosing to
focus on 1 of 4 things:
1) CIRCUMSTANCES
2) OTHERS
3) SELF
4) LORD
In
what verse are we told of the army of Israel’s fear?
Is
it OK to admit our fear?
Doing battle is a
LONELY experience.
Your giants are your giants. In fact, they not be huge to anyone
else but you. You and the Lord have got to fight them together.
What was David’s confession concerning the
outcome of the battle?
Although you feel lonely, you aren’t alone. Check it out in
Hebrews 13:5.
Trusting
God is a STABILIZING experience.
In
the battle against Goliath, David didn’t let jitters interfere.
When you turn a giant over to God, it’s amazing how stable you
can be.
In
the midst of the battle God is there. Check it out in
I John 4:4.
Winning the victories is a MEMORABLE experience.
David could face a giant because he’d already faced a lion and a
bear. Faith that is cultivated in small challenges brings a
harvest of confidence to life’s giants.
Remember:
In
every spiritual battle we need balance:
The right REFERENCE point.
Check it out in Psalm 90:1 - It’s God.
The right PERSPECTIVE.
Check it out in Psalm 90:2 - God is eternally powerful.
