“Let
your light so shine before men, that they may se your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” -
Matthew 5:16
Bill
Glass, one time Cleveland Brown, told the story of a rookie who
joined the team. Bill said the coach instructed the team to
needle this young rookie before the first big game. Since he
played next to Bill in the defensive line-up, it was Bill’s job
to do most of the needling. Bill began to daily tell the rookie,
“The newspapers are printing that you won’t make it in the pros.
They say you’re a cream puff.” The coach’s psychology worked.
The rookie got mad at these comments . . . so mad he was
determined to prove the papers wrong! On game day, the rookie did
just that. He burst through the line again and again, making an
open hole for Bill to run through and sack the quarterback. Bill
ended his story by saying, “Boy, did he make me look good that
day!”
In the
same way that the rookie made Bill look good, we have an
opportunity to make our Heavenly Father look good. Matthew 5:16
tell us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may se
your good works, and glorify your Father which is in
heaven.” When others get their eyes off us and onto God who
works through us, He gets glory in what we do for Him.
- How
hard is it for you to share the glory?
- What
can you do about it?
- What
does this verse say about your attitude concerning glory?
“God, may my life
always be honoring and pleasing to You. In Your name, Amen.”
