READY: “Therefore be imitators of God . . . and walk in love”
-Ephesians 5:1-2
SET: I’ve observed that unbelievers often feel uneasy in the
presence of obedient, on fire, Christians. The holiness of God
reflected in the believer’s life makes the non-Christian
uncomfortable. The following is a true story that illustrates
this point.
A well-known pro-golfer was playing in a pro-am tournament
with President Gerald Ford, Jack Nicklaus, and Billy Graham.
After the round was over, one of the pros on the tour asked what
was it like playing with the President and Billy Graham? The pro
said with disgust, “I don’t need Billy Graham stuffing religion
down my throat!” With that he headed for the practice tee. His
friend followed, and after taking his fury out on a bucket of
balls, his friend asked, “Was Graham a little rough on you out
there?” The pro sighed and said with embarrassment, “No, he
didn’t even mention religion.”
Amazing, Billy Graham hadn’t said anything about God, Jesus,
or religion, yet the pro stomped away after the game accusing
Rev. Graham of trying to ran religion down his throat. What had
happened? Simply this: The evangelist had so reflected
Christ-likeness that his presence made the golf-pro feel very
uncomfortable and I believe convicted.
I wonder, do unbelievers sense our godly influence? If we are
identified with Jesus and walk in His holiness, they will –
before we even mention Jesus by name.
Remember: You witness best when you witness with your life!
