HOW YOU FINISH IS WHAT MATTERS!
“And anyone who does
not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” - Luke
14:27
As a track
coach, I’ve spent hours teaching the fundamentals of running.
There’s one rule I always liked to stress: Run through the
finish line . . . not to just it but through it (at least 5
yards). Every runner needs to get this in their head . . .
ALWAYS FINISH STRONG!
When Jesus
talked about the cost of being His disciple (Luke 14:25-35), He
wanted those who heard Him to realize that believing in Him and
following Him involved more than starting something that’s
exciting. It means sticking with it and something that may be
difficult. There are those times when the ol’ devil likes to put
on the pressure . . . to deceive us, distract us, and divide us.
So whether
we’re talking about running a race or spiritual gain, the
message is the same: What matters most is not how we start but
how we finish.
- What
does it mean to carry your cross?
- Why
such tough talk from Jesus?
- What
Christian fundamentals am I the weakest in? The strongest?
“Dear
Lord, help me to stay strong as Your disciple. Let the
fundamentals of Your Word be evident in my life. In Jesus name,
Amen.”
