“And anyone who does
not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” – Luke
14:27
Throughout
the coaching experience, I’ve found in sports and in life not to
expect the easy way, for if I do I’m certainly
destined for disappointment. If you’ve read your Bible, you know
that the Christian life is likened to an athletic contest (1
Corinthians 9:24-27), or to warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18), and
neither one is easy. Jesus wanted His disciples to carefully
count the cost (Luke 14:25-33), and that certainly doesn’t speak
of an easy way.
I’ve,
also, found that nothing worth having comes without a price. The
Christian life is the most satisfying, but only when we actually
go all out and all the way.
It’s when
we try to compromise with the world that we have problems and
find life miserable. I’m convinced that for every trial and test
we go through, Jesus supplies an abundance of grace and power so
we can bear it, and in our weakness we’re made strong and grow
in our faith.
- What
does Jesus mean about carrying your cross?
- What
have you realized about the cost in following Jesus?
- Is it
worth it?
- What
keeps you going?
“Dear Lord, give me
the strength and the courage to be able to carry my cross daily.
In Your name, Amen.”
