READY: “In all labor there is profit” -Proverbs 14:23
SET: Winning means you’re willing to go longer, work harder,
and give more than anyone else . . . there’s just no other way.
Proverbs 14 says, “In all labor there is profit” (vs.23).
Let me make several observations about training in general
and how you should view your work-out in particular.
• Your approach to your training says something about the
kind of person you are. • Honesty dictates giving your very best
to yourself, your coach and your team. • If you do no more than
you’re required, or you’re a chronic-complainer, you give a
negative witness. • Diligence and faithfulness will be rewarded
. . . it’s not just the “movers & shakers” who get the
attention; a steady, dependable work ethic does too.
I don’t where I found this quote but I like it:
The more I train - The quicker I get; The quicker I get - The
slower they seem; The slower they seem - The easier the game;
The easier the game - The greater my threat; The greater my
threat - The more attention I draw; The more attention I draw -
The tighter they play me; The tighter they play me - The more I
train! (author unknown)
An athletes training isn’t just a hard and sweaty work-out
time . . . it’s impact, it’s influence, it’s making a
difference. The apostle Paul summed it up this way, “Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord
. . . It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians
3:23-24). I do believe this applies to every athlete and it puts
your daily training into proper perspective. Whole-hearted
training - it’s the right thing to do, it’s the fulfilling thing
to do, it’s the rewarding thing to do, it’s the Christian thing
to do! Upward bound!
GO: 1. Review the observation about training, is the Spirit
say there’s an area in your life you need to deal with? 2. Do
you do only what’s required of you in practice? 3. Are you a
chronic-complainer? 4. Does the quote by the unknown author
inspire you? How Colossians 3:23-24, does it inspire you?
WORKOUT: 2 Chronicles 15:7; John 4:34; John 6:28-29; 1
Corinthians 15:58
OVERTIME: Lord, I commit my training to You. I want to be a
good witness, an impact player, serving You whole-heartedly.
Amen.
