“I can do all things through him [Christ] who strengthens
me” - Philippians 4:13
When the
women’s basketball team from Hope College made it to the
national finals, they were behind by 20 points with 10 minutes
to go in the game. The team pulled together and narrowed the
gap. Then with 5 seconds left, a 3-point bucket tied the score.
The final outcome was decided on the foul line. Dina Disney sank
two from the charity stripe with no time remaining on the clock
to win the game. When asked by the press how she stayed so calm,
Dina said, “I recited to myself, I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 has helped God’s people under pressure. But
just reciting it doesn’t give the victory. Applying it by faith
is what makes the difference. To apply this verse by faith means
we must refuse to give up, give in, or give over and have a
God-honoring purpose. Then those around us will see that the
strength of God can and will make a difference in our lives
especially when it comes under pressure.
- Does
it seem like you’re under pressure most of the time?
- How
can applying Philippians 4:13 help?
“Lord, You know the
pressure I’m under. I believe I can do all things through Your
strength. In Jesus name, Amen.”
