WHAT MOVES
GOD?
What
moves God to action? In spite of what many people think, it
isn’t prayer. Prayer moves you. But it is
faith that moves God. The value of prayer is twofold:
First, prayer gets us into faith.
Sometimes we can pray for a short time and sense faith coming
out. It’s not a matter of how long or how short we pray, but
that we pray until we experience faith moving in us and out of
us toward God.
Second, prayer aims our faith. Paul
taught the Philippians, “In every thing by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known
to God” (Philippians 4:6). I know what you’re thinking –
“Doesn’t God already know my needs?” Yes, He does. Matthew 6:8
says God knows your needs before you ask Him. Then, why do we
need to make our requests known to Him? So that we will aim our
faith precisely at our needs.
Let’s get more understanding about this
from Jesus – He once asked a blind man, “What do you want me to
do for you?”(Mark 10:51) Now, Jesus could see that this man
named Bartimaeus was blind. Bartimaeus knew he was blind.
Everybody near the man knew he was blind. Yet, Jesus still asked
Bartimaeus what he wanted. Why did He ask? So Bartimaeus would
focus his faith precisely on what he wanted from the Lord. He
said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”Bartimaeus didn’t say, “Oh, just
bless me.” Or, “I just want to be touched by you, Lord.” Or,
“Help me cope with this blindness.” No! Bartimaeus was very
specific, “Rabbi, I want to see!”
Here’s the lesson:
1)
Pray today until you sense faith rising up in you and
going toward the Lord;
2)
Pray specifically, aiming your faith very precisely.
It’s your FAITH that will move God.
