FCA Impact Play: “Wasting
Time”
READY:
“...making the most of every opportunity” –Ephesians 5:16 (NIV)
SET:
Every
athlete and coach has heard the advice: “If
you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail” – the truth is
that you need to make the most of every opportunity, every
workout and every practice.
A few
weeks ago we turned our clocks ahead for daylight-savings time.
We all were to spring-ahead one hour because turning the clock
ahead in the spring is to gain more daylight at the end of the
day. We still have 24-hours in each day – no more and no less.
No
matter what you do with your clocks, you cannot “save” time but
you can waste it. All you and I have, as far as time is
concerned, is this present moment, and you’re either using it
wisely or wastefully. There’s no in between. With every tick of
the clock, you’re getting better or getting worse, helping
someone or hurting someone, honoring God or dishonoring God.
Twice
Paul says to make the most of every opportunity and redeem the
time (Ephesians 5:16, Colossians 4:5). This means that you
should always live for the Lord and do His will – read God’s
Word, pray, surrender your will to His and obey Him, only then
will you know what to do with the hours and minutes He gives you
every day.
Remember, when it comes to your “workout” – “Hard work beats
talent when talent doesn't work hard.”
GO:
1.
Do you find it easy to waste time at practice?
2.
What are the things that distract you?
3.
What do you think you should do about them?
