“Thy
word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against
You.” - Psalm 119:11
As
athletes we’re tempted all the time. Tempted to reject the
fundamentals - a sprinter looking back thus losing time; or a
football player trying to arm-tackle; how about the golfer that
looks up as he or she hits the ball (I hate it when I do that).
As
Christians when temptations come, let me suggest that you ask
the Lord for strength - and also show you the way He has
prepared for your escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). One other word
of advice: be sure you don’t deliberately put yourself in a
place of being tempted. All of us are subject to weaknesses and
temptations. It could be greed; or alcohol; or lust; or pride.
Regardless of what it may be, you can be sure that the devil
will tempt you at your weak point and not you strongest. Jesus
has given us an example of how to overcome the devil’s
temptations. When He was tempted in the wilderness, He defeated
Satan every time by the use of the Bible (see Matthew 4).
- Do
you read and meditate on the Bible daily?
- Do
you memorize scripture?
“Dear Lord, let Your
Spirit lead and guide me through Your Word that I might not sin
against You. In Your name, Amen.”
