WILLING TO CHANGE
“Just as you used to
offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to
ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to
righteousness leading to holiness” - Romans 6:19
A major
league pitcher was struggling with a terrible record. By
mid-season he was getting better and won 4 games. When asked
what made the difference, he said, “Mechanics!”
What he
meant was the he change a bad habit in his throwing motion. At
first the change didn’t feel right but with practice the better
things got.
When was
the last time you tried to change a bad habit? It wasn’t easy
was it? All because you were really comfortable with the old
way, the new way just didn’t feel right. That’s why we don’t
like to make changes.
It takes
effort on our part and God’s help to really change. Paul said we
are to present our “members as slaves of righteousness for
holiness” (Romans 6:19). That’s not easy but it’s not impossible
either. For the Lord’s glory and our own good we gotta make the
effort.
- If
you find yourself once again being a slave to sin, what does
this passage ask you to do?
- What
“mechanics” would Paul tell us to go through to change our
bad habits into right habits and attitudes?
- Do
you have an accountability partner?
“Lord,
please help me to a slave to righteousness and that my life may
be pleasing to You. Give me strength to overcome my bad habits
and attitudes and replace them with Your holiness. In Jesus
name, Amen.”
